Innocent and beautiful and left me wanting to take pause when looking around.
I first heard, to my shame, of The Little Prince on Netflix and the short part that I watched (I watched it with the kids and stopped around the 20 minute mark) I felt that it was especially unique. So when I saw it was indeed a book, and a particularly famous one at that, I realised there must be something special in here. I wasn't let down.
I'm not quite sure what the Little Prince is, I want to have this great epiphany about the story but if I had one, I can't articulate it.
The tale is certainly beautiful in a way that makes me remember to forget all the serious stuff (and numbers) of adulthood and remember the time I used to wonder whether an entire universe could exist inside a raindrop.
It's a romantic escapism of a book and I hope to share the book with my children one day soon.

Grown-ups are very fond of numbers. When you tell them about a new friend, they never ask you the kind of questions that should be asked, such as: 'What kind of voice does he have?' 'What are his favourite games?' 'Does he collect butterflies?' Instead they ask: 'How old is he? How many brothers has he got? How much does he weigh? How much money does his father earn?'
On this one star, this one planet, here, now, on my own planet Earth, the little prince needed comforting. Nothing else mattered. I put my arms around him, and held him, rocking him gently.
'But what about all those wild creatures out there?' said the little prince. 'Well, as I see it, if I ever want to see butterflies, I think I have to put up with two or three caterpillars, don't you?
'But I've already seen all there is to see of your kingdom,' said the little prince, turning to have another good look at the other side of the planet. 'And there's no one there.'
But if you tame me, you and I, we will have created a relationship, and so we will need one another. You will be unique in the world for me.'
'Do you want to hear my secret? It is very simple. The important things in life you cannot see with your eyes, only with your heart.'
'whether we are thinking of a house, or the stars, or the desert, what makes them beautiful is always invisible.'
'Eyes are blind,' the little prince went on. 'To see things as they are, you have to use your heart.'
